Description

This 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe is a backdated RS tribute that was acquired four years ago by the current owner, an R Gruppe member. A repaint in black was performed in 2018 after the car had been modified with an aluminum decklid and sunroof-delete panel. Power is provided by a 3.6-liter flat-six, which was sourced from a 993 and received a rebuild in 2017. Shifting is through a G50 five-speed manual transaxle equipped with an OS Giken limited-slip differential, and additional modifications include Elephant Racing adjustable shocks, four-piston brake calipers, a roll cage, Cobra seats, and more as outlined below. The car received a GT Award from the R Gruppe and has been displayed at several Treffen events, as well as the 2017 Werks Reunion in Monterey, California. This backdated 911 is now being offered by the selling dealer on consignment with records beginning in 2013 and a clean Oregon title.

A two-stage repaint in Glasruit black was completed in 2018 by Scott Longballa of Corvallis, Oregon. An aluminum decklid, a steel sunroof-delete panel, and hood straps were installed at this time, while the side mirrors, decklid pull cable, front hood latch, and water drain tubes were deleted. The longhood conversion was performed under previous ownership using Dansk fenders and RS-style bumpers from Getty Design. A front-mounted oil cooler has also been added, and matte gray stripes and Porsche graphics are applied to the hood, decklid, and sides of the body.

Staggered-width 16 Fuchs wheels are finished in RSR style and measure 7 in width up front and 9 out back. The brake system features Boxster black four-piston calipers with white Porsche logos and Carrera rotors. Bridgestone Potenza tires display date codes from 2017. The seller states that the R Gruppe badges on the decklid are not included in the sale.

Carbon fiber-backed Cobra Misano 30th Anniversary Edition seats are trimmed in black and feature Schroth Racing harnesses. Lightweight carpets, RS-style door panels, a half roll cage, and a Hargett Pro G50 shifter have also been installed. A modern Kenwood head unit replaces the factory stereo, and the A/C system has been removed.

A carbon fiber MOMO Prototipo steering wheel sits ahead of a 170-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. Over 207k miles are shown on the six-digit odometer, approximately 15k of which were added under current ownership.

The air-cooled 3.6L flat-six was reportedly sourced from a 1995 993 and has been fitted with a black powder-coated VarioRam intake, Bursch headers, a sport muffler, and an aftermarket ECU chip. A rebuild was performed in 2017 by Hollerans Performance of Auburn, California and included splitting the case and installing new bearings, ARP cylinder head studs, reconditioned 993 Turbo connecting rods, timing chain guide rails, and more as outlined on receipts in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a G50 five-speed manual transaxle fitted with an alloy flywheel, a sport clutch, and an OS Giken 28-plate limited-slip differential. Additional underbody photos are provided below, along with images showing the engine removed from the car.

The car has been corner balanced, and suspension modifications include the following:

Elephant Racing adjustable shocks
Raised spindles with bump steer kit
22mm front and 30mm rear torsion bars
Elephant Racing Retro RSR sway bars
Elephant Racing poly bronze bushings
Turbo tie rods
Camber plates
