Description
This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was purchased new for European delivery on August 4, 1960, and stayed in Europe through early 1961 when it was brought to California. The car was acquired by the father of its current owner in 1977 before being relocated to Oregon in 1992 and was subsequently placed into storage until 2018. Finished in black over red leather, it is powered by a matching-numbers 1.9L inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Recommissioning work was performed by German Master Tech of Bend, Oregon in 2018, followed by a First Place in the Preservation Class at the 47th Annual Forest Grove Concours dElegance the following year.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was rebuilt in December 1987 and features dual Solex side-draft carburetors fed by a factory air cleaner. Mechanical work by German Master Tech of Bend, Oregon in 2018 following long-term storage included an adjustment of the valves and ignition timing, recoring the radiator, and a generator service as well as replacement of the voltage regulator, battery, fuses, ignition components, and cooling hoses. A PerTronix Ignitor was added in June 2019, and carburetor repairs were performed the following September.
